Uncovering hidden narratives
The project Kond: The Natural History of Networking Architecture centers on the method of oral history. Through the perspectives collected in in-depth interviews with members of the Kond community, the project challenges the dominant view of the neighborhood as an example of failed urbanization. Rather, Kond’s urban fabric is positioned as a landscape that has grown in dialogue with its natural environment, in stark contrast to the broader city that increasingly seeks to absorb and overwrite the neighborhood. By amplifying community voices that are typically excluded from formal urban discourse, the Cultural and Social Narratives Laboratory reveals Kond’s environmental and cultural memory as an essential dimension of its architectural hi/story.
