Making classical music accessible to marginalized children and young people
As part of the Belgrade Urban Oases project, the Muzikon ensemble, a Belgrade-based chamber orchestra, organized a series of open-air concerts at the three Urban Oases in the fall of 2024 and the summer of 2025. These concerts were aimed at marginalized children and young people, fostering their participation in cultural life. This concert format builds on Muzikon’s series Koncert za kućni savet (Concerts for the Tenants’ Council), which brought concerts to rooftops and courtyards of vacant residential buildings.
Following the same principle, music brought the three oases to life, transforming Belgrade’s urban voids into public stages. After each performance, the musicians invited the audience to discuss and reflect on the music. This format offers an accessible and transparent entry point into classical music, especially for people who are often structurally excluded from cultural life.
