Enabling access

Engaging the public through events and guided tours

Description

On Saturdays, Metropoliz / Museo dell’Altro e dell’Altrove di Metropoliz (Museum of the Other and the Elsewhere; MAAM) opens its doors to visitors. Locals from Rome as well as international artists, researchers, and journalists are invited to explore the site. Guided tours offered by residents and activists share the place’s history along with the lived experience of self-management and artistic engagement. Furthermore, concerts, festivals, workshops, and events regularly foster exchange with the public.

To better reach people in the center of Rome, the format of the Cantieri di Co-Immaginazione (Co-Imagination Workshops) was developed: participatory workshops that present the project and open dialogue with political and economic decision-makers about its future. In this way, Metropoliz / MAAM creates multiple points of access to participation and anchors its relevance within the public discourse beyond its immediate location.
