Accessibility

Making classical music accessible to marginalized children and young people

Although many cultural institutions have made significant efforts in recent years to expand inclusive programs, the architectural reality of our buildings and cities remains inadequate. Not only in a city shaped by water and bridges like Venice is there a lack of ramps, making many areas difficult to access for many people. Even the grounds of the Giardini, with their gravel surfaces, are difficult to navigate for people using wheelchairs or walkers.

The mixed-abled Forward Dance Company highlighted the challenges posed by the terrain with their piece Sulle Sponde del Lago during the opening of the German Pavilion at the 2023 Architecture Biennale. By constructing a representative ramp at the main entrance of the German Pavilion, Open for Maintenance enabled all visitors to enter the building through its portico.
